Wheel paint color?

The vast majority of the pictures I can find, the rims are silver colored, centers orange. However, there are a few pictures with orange rims, front and back. Were the orange rims original in some particular years or serial number range? My G is a repaint and the rims are sort of a silver colored enamel, not the typical aluminum paint. Personally I think the silver-rimed ones look better than the all-orange, but of course, that's a personal preference.

Leon s post sounds about right. The book "Original Allis-Chalmers" by Guy Fay may also give some info.
Generally speaking, I too like some form of silver for rear rims, with the exact sliver color the individuals choice.

As far as silver paint goes, I just repainted the rear rims on my WD45 and I bought my paint from Case IH. The old boys in my tractor club said the silver on the old farmalls and AC"s were pretty close, plus you can use hardner in the paint. Some aluminum or silver paints specifically tell you not to use hardner. So be on the look out.

Some expert will probably set me straight but as far as I can tell the silver on the Early Allis & International match good because they most likely were Galvanized. The Rims on our WD's finally got rusty as the Galvanize disappeared not because paint wore off. Paint would of never lasted on the adjusting rails. They still have silver spots that can't be scraped off.

When I contacted an expert (Allis Connection)and he advised me any silver paint would be fine but a lot of people use Rustolum Aluminum paint. I used some automotive paint from Red Shaw and that looked nice but for what you see I wonder if it was worth all that money. A self proclaimed expert at "Gathering of the Orange" claimed Grey was the proper color since he had a big advertizement with Grey rims.

I don't know anything about "Gs" since I never paid much attention but I think Silver is nice.

on most of the fully restored g's the rims are silver and the centers are orange front and back. Thats how i painted mine and they look good.
