Wheel rake with two wheels?

So the neighbor has given me a OTMA two wheel rake that just hooks on the three point hitch. I have not used one before. It looks like the wheels run out to the right of the right tire. Is that correct? I was wondering that since it only has two wheels, why not just put the two right behind the tractor if it has a wide front end? That way I could just drive stratle of the windrow. I never heard of OTMA. The tag says that it is model RP/2-SB and made in Italy. Plan to use it on a Massey Harris 22.

I’ve often seen those 2 wheel mounted on the front of the tractor to flip a windrow or crowd a wide windrow to fit the baler pickup. Never used such a setup so can’t say much more about it.

Friend had one on Super C. He would take the wheels off and leave the frame on. Just have to put a bag or something over the shafts so when you ran into them it didn't hurt so much, and you didn't get all grease!

Years ago lots of farmers in my area used 2 wheel rake ,mounted on the front of a tractor to roll windrows over. It worked good for that, better than regular rake because it didn't roll too far. Some had a way to raise hydraulicly others didn't. I have one we mounted to a loader frame on a JD430 so you could raise it. I have seen newer ones that go on tractor 3 pt. I don't think they would work too good to make a new windrowq as they aren't that wide. Should work good to roll one over if it rains and it gets wet on the bottom.

I have a Darf that Dad bought in 1960 or 61, to turn windrows from the New Holland Speedrower that came to the farm at the same time. It works nice for gently turning hay that is already raked. Just make your turns to the left (at least with mine). Dunno about your 3pt wheel rake, but your idea makes sense to me.

I had a 4 wheel Lely hay rake mounted on the front of my 454 IH. It was made as a 3pt mount. I made the bracket and used the spindles, 2 separate axles with 2 wheels each. It had a hyd cyl lift. I ran a 7' IH 990 mowerconditioner. I could rake with it, rake 2 windrows together, or combine 2 windrows right in front of the baler....James

3pt two wheel rakes are ideal for flipping a windrow. They take the place of expensive windrow inverters.

A good one, made with light weight materials, will not gather up a bunch of ash. Very little crap in the windrow. They float, don't dig.

They're meant to run on the back of the tractor, despite all the advice.

I've been disappointed with a multi wheel rake. I'm used to clean hay.......... Have 2 two wheel rakes on hand, and will probably make them into a single unit. Enough to make a windrow that my POS New Holland baler will handle.

Hay is a personal thing..............................High quality that you can accept, or crap that's suitable for sale.
