Had some discussion bout rims with a friend. Are the silver ones galvanized metal or are they painted silver. I think their galvanized. If so can they be powder coated ?

Looking at advertising lit. and from pictures Dad had taken in the 70s and on the 970 and 1070 he bought new my conclusion is they are painted with aluminum paint. Too bright to be anything else...my humble opinion.

I think the older rims (60's and earlier) we re e typically galvanized. It seems pre 41 tractors were often painted black. Rims now are merely painted silver, or argent as it is frequently referred to. I'm fairly certain powder coating works fine on galvanized, as long as it is properly prepped.

My '63 430 rear rims looked to be galvanized inside and out. The galvanized metal was still no match for the old calcium chloride mix that ate into one of the rims pretty good.

Thanks guys. This is on a dc4. 1950. Im pretty sure its galvanized. But yes one tire blow n calcium laid at bottom n messed it up good. Im getting one new rim which will b powdercoated so wonderin if could do other to match
