Wheel Seals

Looking for some advice on the best way to repair felt seals (or whatever material they are). Is there a modern replacement? What's a good source for them if not? A thought was to put an o-ring or something under them to shove them up some. It's 4-5".

I needed some felt seals several years ago and couldn't find new ones. I went to an industrial supply store and they had sheets of felt available to order for me. He just needed to know how big of a piece I wanted, how thick and what color. You need a sharp knife to cut it and it will work good.

I've done what others have told you. I've replaced felt seals in old running gear wheel bearings and felt dust seals on the top shaft of spindles. Buy felt from any source. I've used those felt innersoles for boots you can buy at shoe stores and many online sources - I've even bought it on ebay - and cut your own with an x-acto knife. Works just fine.

NOT sure why some guys are too short with words to tell us what they are working with, this site does NOT charge by the word, and I do not recognize what you are dealing with!

That being said, if you want to update to modern lip seals it should be no problem to find a seal with the correct I.D. to fit your spindles and a simple job for a guy with a lathe to bore the hub out to match the new seal's O.D..

Below is a link to a seal finding help site.
