i have a 49 8n with a back blade.tires are not filled and i have no weights. when i use the back blade i get alot of wheel spin. do i need weight on the front or the rear of the tractor?what do you guys use?

Weight on the rear would help. I don't have any weight but I only blade on a gravel road and it does not dig in to present any problems.

My tires are full(co-op)of liquid and really have to be stressed to spin,I have read many pros&cons here so it is up to you to decide on---lha

I doubt that Any tractor can work to it's full potential without some ballast. Maybe for pto work but not for draft work which is what you are describing.

Rustd:

Ns are light tractors and do need ballast for many drawbar tasks.

The least costly solution is to load your rear tires with liquid ballast. For many years a solution of CaCl and water was the preferred liquid ballast due to cost, density and low freezing temperature but it is very corrosive and will corrode your rims if there as ANY leakage as there inevitably will be.

Non corrosive liquid ballast alternatives are RimGuard, RV anti-freeze, used automotive antifreeze or plain water in non freezing climates. Rim Guard, made from beet juice, is non corrosive, weighs about the same as CaCl/water and has an appropriately low freezing point but is costly.

I prefer the flexibility of cast iron weights but these may take a while to locate in some areas and can be a bit costly.

You should need no front ballast for back blade work.
