Wheel width question

Hello,

I use my '52 8N for all kinds of projects. In our East TN pastures we have lots of hilly spots and a wider stance would be helpful.

According to the manual, wheels on an N can be set out to 76". Has anyone tried this with their N lately? Any mechanical wear problems with the bearings or seals?

I had my 9N set pretty wide for cultivating.
Shown here with the box blade on it. No problems.

Douglloyd,Always changed the wheel with years ago from 52" to 72" and back between narrow for row crop work, plowing /wide for planting and cultivating/bush hogging on hill sides.Never any problems with seals or bearings.I believe 76" would be fine,just be sure all bolts are tight.

I have one N tractor that?s spread out to 72?, no problems with it

Make sure to recheck lug bolts-- neighbor lost both rear wheels when he switched his around.

Thanks for the quick responses. I am derusting, cleaning up and painting a stack of Hundred and N rims now. With the centers out for painting, now would be a good time to try adjusting things a bit.

In the past, I had been guilty of not keeping the infamous big axle-to-hub nuts tight on my N - see attached. You can bet I check them all the time now.

The8N has a bit different front end than my 44 2N has but when they are wide it is a bit harder to steer, also easier to bend center piece of front axle if has a loader on or a lot of bouncing.
