Which haybine?

The Hesston is far superior. The New Holland has laminated rolls that tend to come apart and a wobble box to run the knives. They're expensive when they go bad. The Hesston has neither. About as trouble free as you can get.

I bought a Hesston 1110. 7ft cut - needs a little maintenance. Wanted a 9ft cut, but really couldn't find anything for the price I liked. Will try it out this summer first time.

Couple of things. I'm a believer in Hesston rollers. One tough rubber roller and the other steel. I looked at a bunch of New Holland haybines and everyone had rubber delaminating from the rollers. To be fair, these haybines were used and abused too.

I would not hesitate to buy a decent condition NH 472 or 488. Same with the Hesston 1110 or 1120.

I definitely like the simplicity of the Hesston - especially in an older machine. The manual for these is outstanding.

The 474 is similar to the 489 and while good machines, from what I've read, the 489's have had some issues.

If the Hesston is in better shape, I'd recommend buying it.

Good luck,
Bill

That Hesston will run circles around the NH. Several years newer.

I have cut a lot of acres with a 1110, and a Ford 5000. Those things burn through the hay!! FAST!

I was leaning toward the Hesston anyway, plus it is $650 cheaper than the New Holland, I think I'm going to go ahead and give it a try.

FYI - the CaseIH 8320 is the same as the Hesston 1120 and the 8330 is the same as the 1120 - except many of those models had the ticor rollers.

I said that to say this - for whatever reason Agco does not have digital downloads (last time I looked) for manuals, however, CaseIH/New Holland does and for a little $$'s and a credit card, you can down load the CaseIH manual. The CaseIH and New Holland websites have GREAT downloadable PDF parts list pages that are free. Since the Hesston is the same as the CaseIH, you can shop for best price between the two dealers.

Above is a pic of my Hesston 1110 - fingers crossed for this summer!

I bought this 1120 new in 1994. I just replaced it last year. It still ran as quiet when I got rid of it as it did when I bought it.

Very nice. I wish AGCO still made the Hesston/MF 1459. Wonder how long NH will continue the 472 and 488 haybines. I don't see us going up in hp anytime soon - so a haybine is the ticket for a mower/conditioner.
