which oils?

I know I'll get many answers but... I have a Ford NAA and just picked up an Allis D-17. I have been using 10w30 or 10w-40 in the NAA. The former owner of the D-17 used 15w-40. Can I use 14w-40 in both? I live in minnesota and use the NAA in winter. Also what about the trans, hyd and rear. I have heard UTF in all three and also 134D for the NAA. I am open to listen to many opinions.

In most cases, "134D" and "UTF" mean the same thing. Check the label, though.

The NAA has more than one fill point in the rear end/tranny/hydraulics. Best have a manual, or at least know which is which. The tranny and rear end, IIRC, use 90 gear oil.

134 wasn"t around when the NAA came out so they used 90-hyd fluid-90. When 134 came out some used it 134-134-134. Worked great in the winter but it did show you where your bad gaskets/seals were and with 3 separate compartments and 2 shafts running fore to aft, there were plenty.

Don"t know if your D in D-17 Allis stands for Diesel or not. Neighbor had one for years and it was a diesel. If it does you need an API rated C for compression oil in that. So the star on the container should have CJ, CI, CI-4 type things. Shella Rotella T 15W-40 is one such oil, Chevron Delo another, and Mobil has Delvac.

Most of your oils mentioned are for S which is spark type engines.....SG, SJ type notation. Not for diesels. So use them in your spark engines.

Course I like to minimize oil types on the shelves, so I put Shell in everything....till I got these new Dodge P/u"s and now I have to use light oil. My Hemi says to not use anything but 5W-20 or risk engine damage for all temps and all services. On the www they talk about the 4.7 SOHC in the other one having an oil pump specifically designed for 5W-30 so use nothing else.

Boy if that doesn"t blow you away......but the oil pressures are holding up so I guess what they say about the oil pumps in these trucks is true; they are designed to pump light oil. So light oil they get.
