Have an Allis haybine/moco that I have back up and running. So which tractor to hook it to. Either a WD45 or a D-17?? I have others I could use but both of these are just sitting wanting some thing to do. Which would you use??
Thanks

if ya got a straw hat, red bandanna and bib overhauls, go with the wd !!!i always got stuck stacking on the hayrack, never got to drive... :-(. i was down in your neck of the woods last week, went to mountain home ark for a week. on 63 from rolla to west plains, saw quite a few old propane tractors there. they are few and far between up here in northern ill. propane must have been a popular choice back then in missouri.

That is a no brainer. Use the D 17. If you have a healthy back now, about 3 hours on that wd45 would put you in traction. Those have got to be the most uncomfortable tractor ever made. A good tractor though. What a shame they made it so primitive.

Doesn't the D-17 have live PTO? I am sure the WD doesn't or does it have the wierd clutch arrangement?

Anyway, live pto is the way to go.

next time i go down there i'll give you a holler and stop in for a visit. was supposed to vacation last week, stayed on lake norfork, was gonna relax, maybe fish, snooze ect. we bought 6 acres of woods, ticks and chiggers last year there, momma decided i should do some work, wound up cutting back cedar trees, and mowing up the ditches and stuff. turned out to be a workin vacation. i gotta go sometime with the trailer empty, whole bunch of old iron all over down there that would look real nice in my barn. cant tell momma tho....lot of guys were cutting hay too, gotta be tough in that heat!!!!

Yep it can be hot going cutting hay in this area. Just think if its hot cutting what its like getting this old haybine back up and running. Spent the last 4 days on it and probably have at least one more day to finish all the small stuff before I put it to work.

Well the WD45 has a hand clutch give it live PTO and the D-17 has the power divider which also gives it live PTO so on that one it doesn't matter since both have a form of live PTO. The WD45 is around 43HP and the D-17 about 10 more HP. I'll probably go with the D-17 because of the power steering
