which side alternator?

So the wiring seems to make sense, but which side does the alternator go on?

1946 2N - the instructions say the corner bolt on the head by the water pump is one of the mounting points. that means left side?

if anyone has a photo of one mounted on a 9/2N, I would appreciate it.

that makes sense since the front mount coil would get in the way if it was mounted by the oil filler - just have to figure out the bracket mounting now...

If you look on this website or on ebay they will show you the brackets. The H-type bracket goes on the bottom of your alternator and in the original mounting hole of the generator and you can even use the original bolt. I just finished a conversion on my 42 9n and I didn't have time or resources to make the brackets and after looking around I found out ebay was the cheapest for me some other sites have each bracket for around 30 dollars a piece and I found them for under 30 dollars total.
Anyother questions just post.

thanks G

I just checked the nnalertz website and found some parts were missing from my kit - one was the belt and the other an H shaped bracket that would have come in handy (sounds like the one you mentioned).

Still flummoxed about where the top bar from the alternator attaches to the motor.

On mine there is a L bracket that bolts to the two front head bolts nearest the alternator and sticks out past the tractor with a bent out flap that has a hole in it. Then you have a piece of flat steel with numerous holes for adjustment. One end bolts on to your alternator and the other bolts on to your L bracket. I'll try to get a picture of mine. I did see some others around here. As for missing the parts in that kit it doesn't sound good but seems to happen quite often. I would contact them and ask for everything else, I would imagine it should have contained a wiring diagram also. I just combined a few off here and pieced my own kit together.

If it is an 2N generator would go on the left side. They sold a magneto that bolted in place of the front mount coil that would interfere with the generator.

Old has it correct.. place it where the genny was.. which is onthe right for a front mount.. left for a sidemount.
