Was using a white 2-85 and trans locked up killing the engine. I checked rear end and it had oil. Took the sending unit for trans and started it up and I have a stream of oil. I can put the shifter at one position and it doesn’t kill engine when I let the clutch out. Can’t get shifter to upper range of gears. Anyone with ideas ?

With your description you could just have an air or fuel problem. Nothing is "locking up" if the wheels aren't skidding and engine dying immediately.

I have an 1850 with a similar situation. Haven't torn it apart yet but I suspect the input shaft froze to the next shaft in the transmission. I drove it over to spot by my truck. When we tried to use it later, it would kill the engine unless the clutch pedal was in. It would go into different gears but that didn't really impact the operation. My understanding is that the input shaft runs at the engine speed the out shaft runs at the geared speed. We had this happen to our 1950 but I found a 1950-T with a blown engine and swapped the rear end and transmission out. Never really tried to take it apart. I will have to take my 1850 apart. My 1850 had water in the rear end oil when I purchased it. Tried to drain everything out, fixed the rubber boot where the water was coming in but the shaft still froze up.

I reread your post. When you say "one position", is that a specific gear, maybe the one you were using? If that is the case, it might just be a shifter problem. Need a better definition of the one position.

Being that you can't shift into the upper gears, sound like a gear seized on the input shaft of the transmission. What postion is your gearshifter at when the engine will stay running without pushing in the clutch? We have a 2-150 that we parked for now that has the same issue. Didn't get to it yet either...... I have years of projects to do.

The 1st 2nd 4th and R1 is the one I can’t get into
The low range gear is most likely seized on the input shaft. Will the engine no stall with the gear shifter between the 2 H patterns and will die if put into the other H and let out the clutch?
