White 508 plow question

Found a White 508 3-18 semi-mounted plow, auto reset with high clearance. Anyone have any experience with one of these are they any good? havn't looked at it yet only talked to the owner on the phone. I've read online that some didn't have a guage wheel, is this a problem? It will be used on hay/corn ground in black soil. Not sandy or clay ground. Any input is appreciated. also he is asking $600 dollars, sound reasonable?

508 are very nice plows- they aren't a high clearance model, but they have good clearance. I personally never ran a plow with a gauge wheel, so I wouldn't see any need for one. The biggest thing with these plows are how good of condition they are in. I got a super nice 508 3 bottom that needs nothing I'm looking to sell right now- check the condition of your wear items- they can get spendy fast if they need replacing. New fluted coulters are $85 a piece now, and the shares and moldboards have to be more. Stuff to keep in mind as you search!

I have a 508 4-18" without the "corn bottoms" and no gauge wheel, no problem. I can plow corn stalks right after the combine if I want to. If you are plowing a field that was picked I would reccommend chopping/shredding the stalks first to avoid the stalks bridging across the bottoms.
One negative with the 3 bottom is it will not cover your outside wheel track.
Overall I like mine and would buy another one, $600 sounds very reasonable.
Good luck.

What are you asking for yours? It looks like it just came out of the factory! Also how much hp/what tractors have you guys run yours with?

Before we purchased the 4-18s we used a 508 3-16 and pulled it with a 1650 gas @ 70hp. When the 1850 came along 3-16s were too small for that tractor, then we bought a bigger plow.
This is in heavy soil.
