Why 7holes?

I am new to tractors. I was pulling a wagon today and looked back at the drawbar and wondered why it has seven holes. Why does it have seven holes?

The amount of holes was determined by the manufacturer I think. It was to mount their own style of machinery. There are usually an odd number because they had to have one in the exact center of the deawbar to pull evenly.

And for transporting machinery off-set from the tractor so as it will fit through gates etc when gates were only 8 or 10 feet wide or for off-setting so you don't run on the crop just before you cut it or just after you have fluffed up your hay for drying.

Plows and some other equipment will pull the tractor to one side or the other to compensate for this you set the draw-bar to one side or the other until it runs straight. It actually came down from horse drawn equipment. Horse don't pull good to one side or the other.
