why use an offset flail mower?

looking at buying a used flail mower for cover crops. looks like a good bush hog fl60 3 pt 5 ft.
but it is offset just off center a bit. Any specific reason that you would want an offset flail mower. any insight?

we want to use it for mowing cover crops and are unsure why you would want only such a slight offset for a tractor. it looks like it would leave one wheel track unmowed.
and there is a little roller on the back of it. do you have to run these units on the ground?

I think they are offset so they cover the inside wheel track as you go around the field, and the outside wheel track is running on the previous pass. This is just a theory.

Also to allow the tractor to stay back from the edge when mowing the top swath on the edge of a road. Safety first - mowing second!

Have a 5' 3-pt mounted OOFSET flail mower what cuts over the grass rather than into the crop. It is a Ford somethin'r'other ideally suited to mowing narrow fairways, parks, or large suburban estate lawns. Could be better described the flails turn the tops towards the tractor.
Have had it a couple seasons. My yard to small for it. I still haven't found a good field use for it.
I'd gladly trade it for a 12' or 16' width spring spiked harrow.

To get under trees with it. Since its not as long as a bushhog you can't back it under without running the tractor into the limbs.
