WICO C Mag Question

Upon inspection of my mag (trying to determine why in the world the tractor won't fire anymore) I noticed there is some end play of the shaft the rotor sits on. It's not terrible, but you can wiggle the shaft some. Is this normal, or should that shaft be tight? I was thinking it should be tight.

If this is a problem, can I fix it myself or does it need to be sent out/replaced?

Thanks

A Wico C can get end play when the nut holding the impulse mechanism to the armature loosens.
Needs to be corrected soon as these parts can break. Magneto must be removed from
tractor to inspect and/or correct.

Side to side play is when the armature bushings become worn. This causes
adjustment of the contact points to be erratic. Bushings are available from vendors
who supply WICO parts. Not an automotive supply item. Magneto must be disassembled
to install new bushings, sometimes minor reaming required.

Thank you. It is mostly side to side movement and I am suspecting bushings are worn. Is some movement normal? Or should it be good and solid?

Some of the C mags. can have a problem with the inner part the bushings go into breaks off and lets the rotor drag.

With new bushings and a good armature, side to side movement
is extremely minor, maybe measured with a dial indicator.
