what is causing the motor on a ferguson to run wide open

My first guess, is that the spring that holds the throttle/governor linkage forward... fell off.

Have you rebuilt the carb lately? I had the throttle butterfly drop off the throttle and it ended up stuck on its way into the engine. Of course this made the engine run at full throttle.

With any luck it is just the spring.

In my case the govenor ball weight retainer broke and the govenor stopped working.

Many possible causes.
Need to review the system to see whats broke or missing.

Probably the last thing to do mess with is the screw on the drivers side under the oil inlet, more than likely it's something that moves a lot, an that would be on the back of carb, there's a locking pin that probably fell out from wear.
