recently purchased a 8n from someone engine was supposedly rebuilt have pictures of it out of the tractor and completely dissembled. however have found many indicators that work was done poorly. the latest has me scratching my head. removed one of the valve inspection plates to check for the use of adjustable lifters. found three were not but one was.why would someone only replace one??

Because it was a cheap and dirty rebuild and only parts that were so badly munged as to be totally unusable were replaced? Or it was pick and paw through a can of loose salvage items? As I have said before I would much rather not hear "I just rebuilt the motor" when shopping for used cars/trucks/tractors/lawnmowers/etc. Those words set my SpideySense to tingling big time.....

as at an auction & two buddies were looking things over together before bidding started & one says to the other, "hey you need to buy this one", with a little chuckle. The other says, "I ain't buying ANOTHER paint job!". Ignore paint or figure it is hiding something & pretend that you didn't hear the 'rebuild' words.

stupid question can the lifters be replaced without pulling the motor or valves
