winch mounting ideas

Fella"s I am gona be mounting a winch this winter/early spring on my bumper pull trailer and was wondering if i could get some tips-ideas and or some photos of some diff.ways that folks have used. My trailer has the rub rail across the front and some uprights that the rubrail is mounted two. I would like to mount a reciever tube that I could plug the winch into but need to come up with a good strong way to install the reciever tube to the trailer. Thanks for any tips or photos. Hoss

I wish I had a way to get you some pictures, but I laid a piece of Channel down on trailer deck up against the uprights for the front rub rail. THe Channel has the rec. tube welded to it that the winch carrier slides into. and then also on the channel are two vertical pieces of deep channel that wrap around the uprights that support the rail, then there are holes drilled into the deep channel that wraps around and I use quick clip pins to go thru and holds it all in place. I have a 9000 CSI winch and have pulled 5000 pound drag load onto more times than I can count with no trouble. Hope this helps and is so easy to remove and get out of your way if you need to.

I don't have a picture but - I put a reese hitch receiver on the front of my trailer. Then mounted the winch to some 2" stock - it works well and when not in use I put the winch it the tool box, so it don't grow legs.
Hint - mount the winch as high as you can = it helps when pulling heavy things on.

My 9k winch is receiver mounted on a 4" post at the very front of the trailer tounge just behind the hitch coupler. Cable drum CL is about 26" above the deck and has two braces running back to the tounge rails (which makes a good place to carry a spare tire). It is close to the truck to plug into the 12v truck power plug (using truck batteries). I couldn't see the $150 for radio remote, so also ran winch control plug to very rear of trailer so I can steer dead stuff while winch loading (usually 3k#-6k# crawlers).
The location also allows full use of the deck length by pulling auto tires to the trailer cross rail and letting the bumper overhang the tounge.
BE SURE OF CLEARANCE between winch and rear of truck in turns and in beginning uphill pulls when truck tail gate will approach high mount winch.
Trailer is 10k#,16' bumper pull with 2'dovetail, truck is 1t dually.
Not for everyone, but works for me, good luck!

I have a ten ton tag along tri axle float that i use to pull my dozer and anything else that will fit around.
I took 2 pieces of "C" channel (1/4" stock) that was 8" wide and had them welded (long side down) to the "V" between the deck of the trailer and the hitch itself. On top of the "C" channel I had a 3/8" solid steel plate welded in place to form a massive (relatively speaking) "table".
I then bolted my 15000 pound electric winch to that.
So to power my winch when I need winch something onto the trailer I connect a set of jumper cables from one of the trucks batteries to the winch and have at "er.
When I put a 1 ton snatch block on there isn"t much I can"t haul up on the deck. I"ve loaded scrap cars, dead tractors, 10"x10" sheds, and steel beams with this set up. When not in use I wrap the winch in a piece of canvas. To steel the winch would need two guys and some tools so I"m not worried about it. Plus it"s covered so you don"t really notice it. I don"t use the winch too often but when I do I sure am glad I have it. Best of luck! :)
