winter maintenance

just finished winter maintenance on my tractoros.. whew1.. been working on that for near a week now.. adding fuel conditioners.. getting everythign started and exercised.. bats topped off. coolant conditioners checked.. etc.. etc..did I mention i hate this new gas? Had a handfull of some sort of goop on the insides of my allis G tank.. thick stuff.. have no idea what it is other than old varnish that must be ethanol soluable.. flowed thru and plugged up 8" of gas line...

I'm still cleaning out the garden; I really do need to get the fertilizer/lime down & the rest of the rye planted. Looks like it will be the middle of November again before the semi-annual equipment service gets done. Three N's, a finish mower, generator, bush hog, lawn mower, disc, golf cart.....maybe I should buy stock in an oil company!

Something else to add to the winter list.

The operator's manual on my Jubilee recommends you clamp down the clutch to disengage it to keep it from sticking. I think I will do that this year because I had a new Belarus clutch and a 8N clutch stick over the past 2 winters.

Try a product called'Sta-bil Marine',says it stabilizes ethanol fuels.Don't know as i've just started using it,but I'll see.---lha

strangely enough.. I havn't been able to locate the stabil marine here.. however the 'new' red stabil claims to work with ethanol now.

my 2n, naa, and 850 will sometimes stick after periods of unuse.. so i pretty much always block them if they are not going to be driven in a while.

If you hate the new gas....store it with the OLD gas (available at small local airports and known as 100 LL (leaded) gasoline.....REAL GASOLINE...not paint thinner mixed with alcohol.) It'll start right up next year and no water or ethanol in the tanks and no corrosion.

this new stuff is pure junk.

Until the beginning of this year I had my 54 naa in the barn setting unused for maybee 6ys as it needed a steering box rebuild.. i left the 2-3 gallons of old gas in it.. it started right up with that old gas earlier this year when i pulled her out to work on her...
