wire harness blues

Hi Guys,

Time to break out the crayons for me and explain a few things for me. Got a 960 that I am beginning to re-wire. When I bought it three years ago, the wire job looked like it was a combination of lefter-overs and a twelve pack !

The alternator is a 1 wire. The new wire harness is the 12 volt conversion harness from YT. Bare-bones...no lights

So here I am and this is what I have to have explained. On my dash, I will have the temp, oil and fuel. NO VOLTAGE.
I'm concerned more about the first three than the voltage and I can always secure an idiot light or check periodically with a volt meter just to be sure it's behaving like it should.

So....if no voltage gauge, where does the wire from the alternator go to next in line. I have looked at so many diagrams with / without resistors and just terminal blocks.......my head is ready to explode.

Does anyone have a diagram for dummies in this case. Yes...I'm serious about the crayons at this point if that is what we have to resort too!

Here's the pic of the harness......left to right, I'm assuming it starts with the alternator, then to relay and on up to the terminals and (resistor ?) below the dash.

I am stumped with the beginning wire red/white on the left. Red should be on the B terminal of the alt, but what is the white for ? My alt only had 1 wire to begin with.

The simplest diagram I have found for a 3 wire 10-SI is the one below.
Forget that it is for a Land Rover. Just follow the diagram.
Some real good info on Delco alternators there too. One thing that has helped me is to remember that there are 3 circuits on your tractor. Starting, charging and ignition. 4 if you include the lights.
Think them through one at a time and not all together. Otherwise your head will spin.
By the way, that site is designed/owned by a woman. I thought that was neat.

Thanks Ultra for the diagram. Does start to help.

I just stumbled upon myfordtractor.com and this guy literally had any and all diagrams for the older Ford tractors that he had shown to rewire.

Easy to digest and very clear

Both diagrams from ultra and myfordtractor.com makes the lightbulb go on now !

Thanks
