Wire insulation repair

What's the best way to repair wire installation that mice have chewed up? I would just but a new harness but this goes into the injection pump.

That'd be my approach. QUALITY (3M) heat shrink. Get the tool(s) to pop the pins out of the housing, slip some heat shrink over the wire, shrink and reassemble.

There should be a way to remove the terminals from the harness plug (take pictures note the colors first).

Then cut the harness cover back some to get past the damage. Remove any damaged insulation and slip heat shrink tube over each wire. Some liquid electric tape on each wire first will help seal out moisture. Messy but good stuff!

If the terminals won't come out of the harness plug, cut the harness cover a good ways back, cut the wires at varying lengths, slide the shrink tube over the wire and solder the wire back together. You'll have to cut the cover back far enough to slide the shrink tube a ways past the solder point so it doesn't heat up from the soldering. Get some large shrink tube to repair the cover. It will have to go on first.

3X get the tool (or set) to release the wire connectors from the plug.

That far off pinkish wire looks to have been exposed quite awhile.

There is also rodent resistant braided sleeving available to finish the repair.

Not the easiest way but the best way would be to replace the plugs. They usually come with eight to ten inches of new wire. One by one splice and solder the wires and cover with heat shrink tubing.

If you worried about looks follow the advice of others and use heat shrink.

If not it does not look like any of the wire is damaged just the insulation covering.
Wrap each wire with some black tape to prevent shorting and be done with it.

That is a fine mess they have gotten you into! I'll second that Steve@Advance has it right if you can get the wires out of the plugs or have enough length of wire to cut above. If you can't fix it either way, I would slit the rubber sleeve back enough to separate the wires, smooth them as best you can and use either electrical tape and/or the liquid electric tape in a can then recover. Advance Auto sells the 4 oz Blue Magic liquid for $10.00 a can, most auto parts stores carry it. Bought some yesterday because I didn't follow instructions and use pliers to close the can I had on the shelf, dried up.

John, I'll bet that 4520BW has in mind to be done with it for 10 years rather than 10 months, LOL.

I was noticing the black tape the electric company used on my drop line was still good and its been on there over 30 years.

I would use heat shrink with the internal adhesive. Use one size to big, slice it length way, put it on the wire, let it wrap around itself, heat it slowly and it will seal to itself and the wire. Plus the adhesive seals out water and oil.

You can buy it pre-made its called wrap around heat shrink but cost more.

Just to amuse myself I will say.

No grease or oil on my drop line.
But it does have UV rays; sweltering heat; and even the occasional 135 mph winds.

The differance might be the electric company and me for that matter do not use harbor freight black tape.

SV has it. Brush on the liquid tape let dry put another coat on. Then you can fool with the shrink tube if you want. You can also then tag or label the wires. I would also let dry overnight after done.

I have seen that liquid tape but have never tried it. I don't see how you can get even coverage over the whole area that you need. I know that doing it in two applications helps your odds of all over coverage but I see myself getting thin spots that crack two months later. Please tell.
