WIRING A 12 volt REGULATOR

I have a 39 farmall H. WIth Magneto and Generator. After rebuilding magneto and points. I had too much juice coming back to the battery it was 19 and 20 volts of charge return. It was burning up my battery. So I figured my Regulator is bad. I have purchased a 12v regulator and need help wiring it back together. Not sure how as the old regulator looks a bit different. I will attach old Reg and new reg. Any advice would be appreciated. Wiring diagrams. The new gen has 4 posts the old one had 3. So I tired mirroring. I understand I will need to repolarize. But will not try that until I have wired in new gen correctly. Thanks in advance.

Wire per this diagram.

Omit the connection to the light switch if your tractor does not have lights. And make sure the regulator base is SOLIDLY grounded to the generator frame!!

The regulator must be grounded to the generator (clean bare metal to metal. Real important.
The terminal under the regulator goes to the A terminal on the generator (look for it, it is usually the one closest to the engine an "A" is stamped next to the post) (10 gauge wire is needed)
The F attaches to the F terminal on the gen also stamped near the terminal (12 gauge wire works)
The L terminal can be hooked up with a new 10 ga wire to the light switch (removing the wire that came from the amp meter to the lights)
The bat connection goes to the existing B 10 ga wire to the amp meter Is already there. if it was charging you do not need to polarize the generator. If new then yes. Jim

the old one is a cut out not a regulator. When you bought the new reg did you give the Delco# so you get the reg made for your gen Your gen looks like the original Delco 3 brush probably a 1101355 or a 1101423 you need that # because the new reg needs to be matched for a 3 brush gen and it is a 6v

Doesnt look like it was wired right to start with, but I cant put my finger on just what the problem is.
