Wiring For Headlights

Getting ready to wire the headlights on my 1949 8N. What gage of wire should I use for them? When I removed the old wire I noticed there was no in-line fuse anywhere in the line. It does need an in-line fuse doesn't it? Maybe a 20 amp or so? Thanks, fortyniner.

The OEM light switch had the fuse in line. Do not make the mistake of wiring the lights through the ignition switch. The OEM style switch will not take the current.

Thanks guys, my old 48 6 volt does or let me say did have an in-line fuse but it is not hooked up. Appears to be the original thing. Don't think there are two inches of insulation on the wires anywhere they are all bare!! Got to get it fixed to as soon as I get my 49 back up and going. Again, thanks to all of you fellers there. I am to tired to work and to poor to quit!! fortyniner.

49'er.......use 20A fuse and 14ga stranded for yer headlites. Use separate GROUND wire back to the engine block, DO NOT trust the rusty sheetmetal for ground. DO NOT wire thru yer weaksister ignition switch. ........Dell

What Dell said!!!

Im also an electrician and it comes in handy knowing the right way and the right parts. 12ga will also work..
