Wisconsin engine

I have a worn out VH4D on an old JLG manlift Model 40 . I have found a used V465D and am wondering if it might interchange ? I know it is double the horsepower and has slightly larger crank diameter. I am wondering if it is the same size otherwise. It drives a hydralic pump so I don't think hp should be a problem . Also does a gas engine use different compression ratio pistons than a gas/propane engine ? I am also looking for a manuel for my JLG model 40 manlift. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks Tim

The V465 is a lot larger engine, and not directly interchangeable. The VG4D would be closer, but there might still be space problems.

The flathead Wisconsin engines such as the TE,TF, VE, VF, VH, and VG engines all used a different head for factory LP. The same head could be used on Gasoline engines for high-altitude operation. So the answer is that the pistons are the same.
The V465 and other overhead valve engines did not have a high-compression option, as far as I know.

Am I understanding correctly that if I found a gas only VH4D I could put my heads on it to run on propane or gas like the one on my manlift would if it was good? Thanks so much for the help. Sites like this are great !!! So many helpfull people

I realize this is off topic a bit, but I"m looking to sell a similar engine and wondered what kind of price they are bringing? ( I took it off of a JD 346 baler that was converted to a PTO drive)

Thanks for any info

I bought a Hesston windrower a few years ago for $600 and was told the engine alone was worth that. (VH4D) So I would guess depending on the condition of the engine it would go up or down from there. My engine ran great but some times was finicky about starting. It seems Wisconsin's tend to be like that.

A lot of propane engines are running without the special heads, they just don't have quite the HP of the ones with high-compression heads. Shouldn't be a big deal on a manlift.
Check the head casting numbers of the two engines, if they are the same, just leave them alone.
I take it that you could use either gas or propane? That would indicate to me that they were standard gasoline heads.
