wood splitter

if i may i would like to ask for advice. i would like a log spliter. i do have a few ol 2 bangers but not to sure they would work to well for log spliter. looking for advice , direction, and any input on building one. plus i think i a little gas motor will run cheeper. but not sure the correct way to build one. thakn you for your help.. regards george

An OLD 2 Banger won't run one very well, a New 2 Banger will run it better.

And a Gas engine model will run cheaper & split the hard stuff......

I use the HYDRAULIC PSI from my CASE 610 B with a PTO mounted HYD.PUMP.
To split a DRY BUG KILLED KNOTTY PINE 18" Diam. X 16" LONG with a single splitting head requires 2000 PSI on a 4" Diam. RAM.
The HYD PSI on my JD 520 was <1000 psi. The HYD. PSI on my Case 830 is <1500 PSI.
Using the 610-B is very expensive when you think about all the components rotating and wearing out not contributing to the actual WOOD SPLITTING.
I split 3 cords of PINE every second year.
There are much more economical ways to run a HYD.SPLITTER other than my 610-B but that is my choice.

Find a 1 cylinder Wisconsin. Buy the stuff from Northern tool. I did that 25 years ago and all the stuff still works. I split hedge, Oak Hackberry, White Ash with no issues. I can split forks with no problem I run 3000 PSI.

I have a splitter I use on my 1944 John Deere B. The splitter has a PTO driven 12 gpm pump. It is pretty slow. You could buy a 20 GPM PTO pump that would work better. The pump will cost you as much as a gasoline engine.
