world's plowing match post revisited

Howdy,

Seen a post on another page about the 50th Anniversary of the world's plowing match that was held in Peebles Ohio back in '57. Hope to see a lot of yt folks out there if they are able to go. The orginal event was held (the actual plowing part) on my great uncle's farm. One of the ponds they dug for the conservation expo was also on his farm. Dad worked on his farm from time to time and told me the story of how him and Jim threw away signs that had been out in the field so they could work the ground. The signs were markers for each participant's plowing spot. He kicks himself for not keeping at least one. Our CaseIH dealership is going to be at the event. We're bringing a couple new tractors and I'm working on getting a 350 or 450 farmall to set beside them to do a 50 year comparison since they were in production at the time. I'm also working to get CaseIH involved somehow. Not sure how that will work out but we'll see. IH had a huge part in the original event and CaseIH set a 24 hour plowing record a few years back so maybe. Hope to see a lot of you there.

Howdy back;

I attended the 1957 Peebles matches. I remember the big IH TD-24 clearing trees and the TD-16 pulling the big brush disc. Also remember Herb Parsons putting on his shooting demonstration. What a marksman!!!

I would be interested in more information about the 50th year revisit... Gene

Howdy,

The event will be held Aug. 17 and 18 at the Peebles High School in Peebles Ohio. The 18th will be more of a dinner event (have to buy tickets for that one and it may already be sold out). The 18th is the big event with demonstrations and other things going on most of the day. thanks for the interest.
