Wrong Piston for a 1966 Ford 4000?

UGH! One delay after another on this tractor project. I had the machine shop order my pistons because (surprisingly) they could get them margionally cheaper then I could online. So, I installed them last night, and I think they may have given me the 201 piston, instead of the 192? Here are a few pics, it's pretty obvious which piston is new. :wink:

Like you say Ugh!
That would not make me a happy camper.
Makes sense if you think about it though.
192 stroke = 4.2" and 201 = 4.4"
So the pin height would be .2" lower in the 192 piston. Looks like you're about .2" short there.
If you happened to have a 201 crank laying around you could use that instead. Gain you a couple of ponies and those pistons would fit.
Sell your 4.2 crank to someone with a 3000 diesel or 3600 gas/diesel.
Not likely though I'll guess.
Nice project though. Good photos too.
How about an update when you get it up and running?
Oh, and I can kind of see a litle in the background too. Looks like you're in for a bit of wheel/rim work soon too.

Check to see if the rod bent if antifreeze got on top of the old piston.

Hi Ultradog,

It is too bad I don't have a 201 crank laying around, although the crank I've got now has already been turned down .010, and I have the bearings to match. It will be interesting to see what the machine shop has to say on Monday. With pistons costing $130 each, I can't afford them to keep screwing this up.
As for that wheel... it's rusted thru in a few places, and in really bad shape, it most definately will need to be replaced.

Overall tho, this tractor has been a fun project! Can't wait to put the engine back on it, only to discover what next may be broken LOL

Hey Scott, thanks for the sugestion. The rods measure / check out fine, after pulling the piston and setting it beside one of the old ones I pulled from the engine, there is definately a difference in pin position. Sadly, the machine shop ordered the wrong pistons for my engine.

Did they order the wrong pistons, OR were they shipped the wrong pistons?
Either way you now have to wait to get the correct parts. That sucks.

If they screwed up and the wrong pistons cost YOU $130 each, you need a different machine shop.

There is a casting number inside the old piston to tell what the old part# was, a dealer will have the piston chart in their quick reference guide.

Yay! That was fast! Got 'em in the next day. And the shop made it right, it didn't cost me anything Onward with the re-assembly!!!
