That would have been at the GM Fairfax plant. My grandmother rode the bus from Harrisonville, MO. to, (and from), the Pratt and Whitney Plant in S. KC Mo. that built the aircraft engines for some of those planes during the war.

According to one of my best friend's, his dad was one of the "mechanics" that took the extra fuel tanks out of our bombers when they got to England and installed the bomb racks.

And I worked on construction of the new General Motors plant that is now located on that site. The concrete structure where the new airplanes test fired their machine guns is still in place.

The Pratt & Whitney engines were made at what is commonly referred to as the Bendix Plant, located just north of I-435 and just west of Metcafe.
