Yanmar 1401D Fluid Capacities

tractorford

my ford 850 gonna git the dim mak
Howdy all, finally putting my yanmar 1401d to use these days.... bought it a few months ago! I pulled the engine dipstick and its imprinted 2.8L on it.. not sure if its the original dipstick or what--- im fairly confident it is... should I stick with that since it converts to about 3qt... I tried finding the info before and some guy said he put 4qt, but im wanting to avoid goobering this up.... any help on the amount for the other fluid levels is also appreciated if possible... I already ordered a front knuckle seal as well since I noticed it seeping a little when using the loader... nothing too crazy but I want to get ahead of it before it turns overly costly.....

Im also wanting to put in a real temp gauge on this one does anyone have a link to one that would plug into the port that the factory sensor plugs into?? I read the factory idiot light sensor/sender can get weak and go red and give a false red.... noticed that a few times when running a brush cutter out in the field.... so I shut it off and let it cool down for 20mins each time it happened... so far its only happened when brush cutting...

Have you downloaded the manuals for free from the YTOG yet? The summary section of this manual would tell you the fluid capacity.
YANMAR YM1401 PARTS MANUAL NPC-1045.pdf

And the domestic sold machine YM169D is a twin to your Gray Market YM1401D. And there are two manuals to grab,
YANMAR YM169 SERVICE MANUAL AOD1955-8807.pdf
YANMAR 3T72HA-A YM169 YM169D 0CT10-M22601_en.pdf

Thank you! Got that manual now- yea I figure the 2.8L on the dipstick and the 3.2L mentioned for the YM169D manual pdf is so negligible-- ill just dump 3 qt into the little rascal with a new wix filter and call it a day!

DANGERS using WIX filter on diesel machines, they are just tooooooo restrictive, they hinder the proper flow. If you go with WIX or Carquest (same thing), be certain to get the filter in DOUBLE the height to make up for it's excessive low micron filtration rating. Diesel pump suction is great, thus restricting the suction will cause mechanical problems later.

WIX is great for gasoline and on-road vehicles. And combined with Mobile-1 works very well.

Purolator is the leader in diesel for on-road Ag, Forestry and Marine for several decades.

glad i read this! had the wix filter sittin on the shelf like some dastardly elf for a few months now....

huh okay then i had the WIX 57356XP if that makes a difference for the height requirements but okay then ill see what the compatible purolator filter is then...

the previous owner had the xp wix filter i mentioned on there already maybe the feller didnt know

If you wanted, you could use Rockauto and do a WIX and Purolator filter height comparison. Finding the taller filter is a great benefit. Long as it will not stick out to make contact with the loader arms or the sub-frame or whatever.

Some people complain their loader moves slow after a fluid change. I ask them, what new filter did they add. And it's a WIX or some small micro slow flowing filter. You do not want to dead-head the pump. It's asking for huge troubles.

ordered the purolator boss 14610... im
hoping the microns are what they need to be... the local tractor places only had the regular (red) ...and not the boss ver- but now that im down this rabbit hole im hoping the boss isnt more restrictive than say the red version 🤔 --either way its got to be better than the wix thats probably been used on this thing for years before it became mine

felt like a genius finding the oil drain plug
on this thing i tell you, what!

pretty much under the dip stick above

finally had a moment to tackle this after a few weeks ---

had to loosen these two bolts on this thing and tilt it away to be able to spin off the oil filter-- not sure if thats because the belt is super old or what but it got figured and done

then i had to use a 1-1/4" lennox hole saw (had tried other methods heh... shoulda just got the $15 thing from the get go--- then i wouldnt of had to 'hole saw within a blind hole at obscene angles on the edges hoooh...howdy... angled it good to get it to bite through...

but i finally got to actually remove my oil drain bolt because it was just not happening other wise trying to snake something between the loader bracket etc!!

(hole is actually more centered than this angle it just looks off in this pic)

but its done... thankfully 3 qt came out... 3 qt of SAE 30 went in with that new purolator 14610 filter!!! future oil changes with a long socket are to be 95% more accessible now

ill doll up my bloodsport manglin of the panel so it looks purdy sooner than later ;)
