YM 147 Oil Leak

I am doing some work on my dad's old Yanmar. I recently replaced the fan belt, not with a Yanmar belt I used the old one to get a Gates belt that matched the size of the one on the tractor. Well today the tractor developed an oil leak. The belt I bought does not look like it fits correct it does appear to be loose. It is hitting this part of the tractor, I am not sure what this part is. I am not sure if it looks right. It looks like an open piece with a shaft of some sort showing. Would the belt hitting this cause an oil leak? Is this piece suppose to be like this. I hope you can help me. This piece looks like it is to the best of my knowledge some kind of guide for the belt. Any help is appreciated. I am unable to attach a picture because the file is too large.

Have you tried to edit your picture (change size) before attaching? Sounds like you need to get the correct belt but I don't have a clue about what it is hitting or the leak.

I have tried to compress it but it is still 979 kb. I am not sure what to do to get it to fit.

A generic belt is OK but maybe you got a too-big one or you didn't reef up the tightener. You want about a half-inch deflection with a 25-lb force midway on the longest run.

The leak is likely a coincidence unless there's a hose problem from the installation. Coolant can resemble oil on an older engine. Clean and dry it, get it to leak again, and trace it to the source.

This belt even with all the adjustment was well off half inch play. You could probably move it around 3 or 4 inches or more of play. I did some looking around today with my neighbor and we both agree on where the oil is most likely coming from. We figured out that the belt was so loose that it was rubbing on the housing on the motor for the rpm meter. It is the housing where the cable goes from the hour meter to the motor. Way it looks belt rubbed on it so long that it wore down and you can now see the shaft that is inside the housing that turns the cable. This tractor was in use by my cousin for about 4 yrs from what I am seeing alot of stuff was overlooked and he more that likely just put any belt on the tractor. Has anyone ever seen anything like this. I have pictures that I can email to anyone that would like to see the damaged part just let me know. Thanks for everyone's response.

Yep, I replaced it on my tractor because it was leaking where the tach cable hooks up. Fixed my leak. Thanks Winston. The first link you put looks like the one I need. I have an email into Hoye right now to see if it is the correct one for my Yanmar. What model tractor do you have?
