Ym 147 Water Pump Pulley

Started my 147 today and it sound like the bearing is shot on the water pump pulley. I haven't torn it down yet to see so I want to ask here and see if anyone knows. Can the bearing on the pulley be changed or will a new pulley have to be purchased?

Any bearing can be changed, depending on your ability and resources.

You must remember your water pump also has a seal in it. If the bearing is bad I am surprised the seal is not leaking. While Norm is right about any bearing can be changed I suspicion you are going to run into problems on this endeavor. Changing that bearing without messing up your seal may be tricky. I don't see any repair kits available for these Yanmar pumps.

You need to troubleshoot and determine EXACTLY where your problem lies before proceeding.

It's hard to localize a noise next to a running diesel but a mechanics stethoscope can help. If you're convinced the bearing's noisy, you might look for an engine, bearing, or machine shop that replaces them.

Not telling you how to do your Donkey. Take the belt off and listen for it to Quit. If It does I order a new Pump, IMO <E></E>

I am sure it is the pulley that is making the noise. When you watch the pulley you can actually see the pulley twist and make a worse sound than it was already making. There is no antifreeze leaking from the pump yet. This only started yesterday and I haven't ran it since I heard the noise. Just ran it for about 30 after the noise started to see if I could figure out what is going on.

I doubt that the pulley has a bearing. I suspect it just bolts to the front of the waterpump and uses it's front bushing as a bearing.
