My dad is looking at getting a YM2200 on a horse trading type deal. The owner says the tractor runs hot on him. I know there are certain model yanmars that are said to avoid. Is the 2200 one of them? Are parts for that tractor readily available? I unusual get all my parts for my YM 2610 through Hoye and they usually have what I need. Just trying to find out before he gets this tractor if he can get parts for it. He is 82 a I don't want him to go out and trade for a pasture ornament.
Thanks for any replies.

Browsing parts on this sight indicates, head gasket and most anything involved with changing it is available. At this point you really have no idea what is causing the overheating? Could be stopped up radiator fins, inside or out, loose fan belt, bad pump, leaking head gasket, etc, etc. Water pump and radiator is available.

Valves and head may be like hen's teeth. Might read this thread. <LINK_TEXT text="http://ymowners.co...=1&t=6972&hilit=2200+head</LINK_TEXT>

Just got a little more info on the tractor. He told my dad that when it ran hot he drove it back to the barn and he saw that it had also blown oil out of the dip tube. That would indicate to me hi pressure in the crank case so could be cracked head or even more. If it is a cracked head the overheating could have caused that, so I can't say that's what caused the overheating. Do you agree?

Yes

Blowing oil out doesn't sound good. Could be and likely head gasket causing that but no way to know without tear down. Wonder if it had blown out coolant also?

I would steer clear of a YM2200 with the problems you mention unless it is really cheap. Parts are not that plentiful and it could require a lot of work.

Thank you all for your help. We were supposed to go look at it this morning but the guy called last night and backed out of the trade said he got a better offer. I think it was best that it went that way.

It is for the best. The last thing you want is a 2200 with possible head problems. Those heads are very hard to find and are EXPENSIVE when/if you do.
