YM1500 FRONT MAIN BEARING

How do I go about pressing out the front main bearing on a YM1500 block. Can I just put the block on the press and press it out from the FRONT outside to the inside or will I crack the block? Does it need to be supported on the inside and what should I use? Any pointers?

If you can get a gear-puller on it, I'd guess that it would be safer.

Haven't been there, done that. Two repair manuals I have with the same type of main bearings state to use their special pullers. They are just a sleeve the bearing will pull through and a pull plate that is slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the main bearing. Then a bolt is used to extract or pull in the bearing. If you have a press I would think you must be mechanically inclined. I believe common sense could dictate whether the press would work or not. Perhaps you could put a support inside the crankcase from front to back so you would not be pushing only on the front of the block but transferring the push all the way through. Not good with words, does any of this make sense?

I took a piece of shaft and turned it down in a lathe to fit inside the bearing leaving a lip to catch the bearing and tapped them to the inside. Also drilled a hole in the center of the piece and install a short piece of ¾ shaft as a handle and also something to tap against. It looks like a special tool that you would install cam bearing with, just has a bigger insert to protect the new bearing during installation.
