YM1500 overheating

Yes i have a ym1500 that keeps overheating, i have replaced hoses, radiator, and fluids. Still overheating... I noticed it doesnt have a water pump to circulate coolant do i need to intall one some how?? Thank you

I have a YM1500. It didn't come factory equipped with a water pump. My tractor does very well here in the North Carolina heat. I ran it today for about two hours mowing with a 5' finish mower and the outside temp was approaching 100 degrees F. I keep the radiator clean inside and out. If you have a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water in your radiator your tractor will overheat. Flush out and fill the radiator with clear water. Add antifreeze only to the overflow bottle to the fill line. This is really just for a little corrosion protection. Run your tractor and it should be good unless you have a head gasket problem or a blockage in the engine keeping the water from circulating. Its a thermo-siphon system relying on heat to cause the water to rise and make its way through the cooling system. search this site for overheating info. lots of good learning here. there is also a water pump kit you can install on the YM1500. My tractor works just fine as it came from the factory though. you have to remember to add antifreeze in the winter to keep it from freezing in low temps and take antifreeze out and use only a very small amount in the summer to keep it from overheating.

Thank you very much Skip and Winston I will definitely change the mixture, I believe im running a 50/50 mix and that makes A Lot of sense running just clear water since the antifreeze has such a higher boiling point than straight water and the sooner and cooler of the temp you can get it circulating the less likely you are to overheat. I sure do appreciate ya'lls help I cant thank you enough because I have lots of work thats been pilling up fightin this problem for months now. Thanks a million and ya'll have a great day

Backflush the system to clear the block and you will be good to go.

I run straight water in my 1500 through the summer and have never had a problem. Just put antifreeze in for the winter.

You should never run just straight water in any radiator.

just run 25/75 coolant to water and be done with it, summer or winter. dont run more than that amount of coolant otherwise it will <COLOR color="#FF0000"><s></s>overheat<e></e></COLOR>.
