ym2210 rear axle seals

Trying to figure out how to access the Axle release bolts, clips etc... holding in the rear axles on 2210. Seems that I need to remove the Hydraulic lift unit (top of unit) or back plate (pto section). What parts need to be removed and what parts can be left together and still allow access to seals and bearings for the rear wheels, thanks.

I've not seen a 2210 but if anyone knows if the running gear is the same as for the 226 I have that documentation.

Well, so far slightly closer, doing this one step at a time hoping to be going in the right direction. I removed the hydraulic lift arm assembly from the top of the rear end, and can now see that each axle has 3 bolts holding the axles in "place". I still can't reach them easily so guess next step is to remove the Pto plate and then see what needs to be removed. Having fun but worried all the time. Figure got this far, what the heck. 30 minutes work so far, will have to replace the gaskets. No damage to any internal parts noticed. will hold off till i can read some more online. This is an interesting thing for me, as I can come by a ym2210 with finish mower, box blade, boom pole for $3500 asking price. Would guess that this would be rough $700-800 repair job??? any thoughts. recommendations?

Sounds like your coming along good. Wouldn't think bearing and seal replacement should cost anything close to $700. More like $100. Maybe $200 with fluid and filter. Good luck.

This may help a little it came up awhile back. It's for a 2200 should be the same. After this thread Me and Norm both agreed on having the ym2000 setup. On mine the seal replacement took about 2Hrs.tops and 20.00$ parts shipping Inc. <E>:D</E>

Agree cost seems minor just time consuming without knowing what bolts, nuts, pins, etc... has to come out. took off snap ring on pto shaft, nuts and bolts except the 4 "large" nuts that hold the pto timing gears. I was hoping that these nuts and the two small bolts around the pto shaft could stay in place, and the whole unit be removed, at one time. Still studing the next steps. Rains' came and honeydoes stopped me, beer didnt hurt. Next step is to remove 4 large nuts, and see what happens. Help me if it gets bad from here.
Studied the photo thanks, see snap ring, Might that be the only thing holding axle in place?? or do the 3 bolts have to come off?????

Thanks for the posts. Studied the photo's and the units seem the same. I was hoping that I only had to remove the housings surrounding the axles and the axle units would slide off or out. That would make the most sense. But, there must be some thing I've not done yet that stops the unit from "sliding" out. Will play with that today, if the rains hold. Thanks for the help so far, guess I should have broken out the camera for future reference. Video might be nice. Will see, thnks again.

Well, looking at the posts and trying to remove the axle housings are a no go. The large gears on each axle are way too large to come out with the axle housings. The drive axle gears are 6-8 in diameter and axle housing 4'' at best. So, that's not quite the way out. Pressing in and out of the bearings and shaft, that's a see come. Waiting on recommendations on removing pto plate/shaft. Whether or not to remove large 4 nuts holding the pto gears in place or not. Not many choices left here. Only way out seems to go for it and dismantle pto portions and see what happens. Should have spent the monies on the manual. No repair guys in the area have ever had to change the seal or bearings on the ym2210. Any 2210 owners out there?? Noticed one post that said that pto had to be removed to access axle bolts, but gave no information on how to do it. Other than that it required having to detach "rods or pins" holding units together. Rain slowing down work.

Either your going to have to pull the PTO and remove the Bull Gear Clip an try to pull the Axle with a gear puller or just remove the whole Sahbang,Housing and all then pull the Axle like Doug did with a press on his site.

Crazy that there is that much difference in the 2200,2210,2220.No doubt about it now I'm sticking with my 2000.
Look at the 2200 you can pull it all or remove the PTO and remove the clip and pull the axle.
On the 2220 Your removing the PTO and Axle Clip the Bull Gear appears will not got through the Frame.
On the 2210 It's going to be either or Depending on if the Bull Gear will go through the Frame
Some pics. would be Nice for Refference in the future. GGEEEEEEEEEZZZZZEEEEEEE!!!!
Kind of can't wait to see the way it is setup I could be totaly Wrong <E></E>

Got it all apart, Not able to post pictures on to web site. Can't log on and can't figure why. I went to tbynet and was able to post pictures of the parts and dismantle procedure. When I've finished hope to be able to figure out how to get this information to load up. Removed all bolts on PTO plate except 4 large nuts and two small bolts on each side of the PTO shaft. I gently pryed off the PTO plate a few fractions of an inch, and realized that 2 pins, washers, and cotterpins had to be removed. Hemostats were required to handle these small parts. Once they were removed, a splined shaft coupler was slid forward toward engine and the PTO as one complete unit came out. I removed the 3 bolts holding axles in Large axle gear and after removing the nuts holding the brake drum in place the entire unit shaft, bearings and housing came off as one unit.
The bearings were removed by dropping the axle shaft on large board to free the bearings 10 or so times were required to remove all bearings. The "seals" were finally reached and removed by prying them out of their seats. Ordered seals, extra bearing as one seemed "slack". No gaskets were available, so will use one of the high oil resistent "form a gasket" compounds.

Just something to think about. Without the gaskets would it be possible your bearing clearances and gear location could be affected enough to matter? I'm guessing those gaskets are about 1/32" or .031".

The link to Doug's website with the instructions no longer works. Can someone who knows him contact him and get an updated link? I would find this information REALLY helpful as I am soon to undertake the same job.

Thanks!

I have removed all bolts located on the rear pto housing. I have put the pto shifter to "1" (towards the engin and right). The entire pto assembly slides out about an inch but then gets caught in something. I have the shop manual, but it is very veague and makes it sound like it should slide right out which is why took on the simple seal repair project. Now i'm stuck. Anyone know what its hung up on and how i get the pto assembly out of a ym2210?

I'm having the same problem with pulling the PTO unit out. I believe there is a bolt holding the shaft in the housing. I think
It's a PTO speed selector shaft but I'm not sure where it is. Does any one know where the pin or bolt is that will release the PTO shaft?

I think you usually have to remove the PTO shifter lever from the shaft (or the lever will hit the frame before it moves far enough) and let that shaft turn as you pull out the assembly. There is a fork that has to roll out of a groove as you slide out the PTO. The same will have to be done in reverse when re-installing it.
