Your Feedback Needed

Newer tractors would be fine with their own forum. As for this new deal it still sucks and I nowe spend less time on it than I did before this change and will probably continue to do so since you can't tell where you left off the last time you were looking at it. I'm close to a week behind on TT and maybe about that on the others I frequent.

I have seen several times over the years where someone has suggested to Kim or Chris that it would be nice if they added XYZ forum. So rather than being in a rush you could just sit back and if we feel a new forum is needed someone will ask for it.

But lets be realistic for a moment.
Defining "late model tractor" is a mute point.
Asking us if we would like to see modern tractors added to the forum is a mute point.
Your job is to maximize sales of tractor parts.
And if you feel adding a Kubota or other modern tractor forum to our High traffic site gives you the best bang for the buck then you should do what you need to do no matter what we say.
What is the worse thing that could happen if you keep changing the site we have grown to love for over 20 years for some of us.
You could turn this site into a Low traffic site.

Oh by the way I got a suggestion for a new forum.
The puzzle forum.
That way we can have our puzzles but we do not have to wade through 10 puzzles looking for a tractor question.

Puzzles are just fine in "Off Topic/Tractor Tales". That's the only place they should be.

There should be no tractor questions or discussions in "Off Topic/Tractor Tales".

Tractor questions and discussions belong in "Tractor Talk".

Brand specific questions/discussions in their specific forums, etc.

That is simply my opinion of course.

If the folks in charge want to allow free range posting rather than probably wasting their time trying to herd the free rangers into the proper forums, well, that's fine too. I wouldn't blame them a bit. After all, it's their sandbox but it does make a messy site.

Again, my opinion, that's all, I can live with it either way.

Old dogs?

So would a better way just be to update the brand list to include agco fendt versatile and any I missed? A lot of the brand specific ones are easier to sort by date anyway since there’s a lot less posts. Truth is unless you had a gold key tour this afternoon you have yesterday’s tractor

in what years does early end and late models start would be the thing to know so a person can keep them in their own parking lots. kinda thinking new to start in the 1980's. ? also it would be a challenge for the average person to give proper info on these new computerized units that require specialty tools that only the dealers would have. plus many here would have no idea either as you just dont have a 500k tractor sitting broke down and asking for info from green horns, and yes including me. the new stuff is not for home repairing so depends what a person calls new.

Is there a simple way to get back to the forum after posing a comment? On the old system, you simply clicked on the link "Return to Forum" and you were back there. Unless I'm missing something, it's not that simple how.

Also, why aren't the threads in simple chronological order? When you go down the list, one will be today, one a month ago, another two days ago, the next one today, etc.

BTW, I'm using the new forum but I can't say I like it better than the old one.

Fine by me, existing today's tractors forum doesn't seem to operational.

Been explained several times in several threads.
When somebody asks such questions in a thread, several people post an answer.
But people have to be willing to come back and see if there is an answer.
You will never know until you look and see if there is an answer.

You can lead a horse to water, but some are too stubborn to drink.

Oh well

I don’t know that there are that many looking for super late model questions here like rustred said this just isn’t where people go for that. If you did have a question it’s going to be for someone who has worked on it and that’s going to be the dealer. Often in the heat of the battle if they know you and if your somewhat capable they will talk you through stuff. I can see where people might begin to have more questions on 8000 series jd tractors up to about the r series and in 5 years probably even those. A inline 6 is still an inline 6 so a lot of the failures haven’t changed. His electrical codes we won’t be much help with and diagnosing dpfs that are plugging we don’t even want to go there. Preparing the forums with a few more of the correct brands to update 20 years is fine and the modern tractor post in them I don’t see anything wrong with it how it is. If they pop up people will chime in like they always have

What is considered "late model"? I know to qualify as "antique" most places consider equipment at least 30 years old can be classified as "antique". That being said, tractors from the early 1990's are antique, which to a lot of people are a modern tractor or "late model". Maybe have another poll to see what everyone's thoughts are on what to consider "late model" tractors and equipment, like what year and newer do you consider late model? Just a thought that might help with everyone's decision.
I consider any Deere above 1960, Ant Ih above a 450 Any MF above a 165, Ant 4 digit Fords. Any 4 digit Olivers

I guess I'm in the crowd with leaving the newer tractor questions in the same forum as the old tractors. If someone is not interested in reading about a problem with an 8300 just keep scrolling by.

As already stated everyone has their idea of "newer" and "older" tractors. Some might say anything with a computer in it is a "newer tractor." But even the JD 8300's are almost 30 years old already. When this site came out back in the late 90's there were 4020's that were 30 years old. So eventually all these "newer tractors" become Yesterday's Tractors.

Secondly If you divide up the forums into more sections or sub forums they get less and less traffic on them because not everybody (including me) reads every single section.

I work as a JD technician at a dealer and as a hobby I work on 2 cylinders. If someone has a question on an unstlyed A I might be able to help. If someone has a question on an 8300 I might be able to help again. Reading one forum to help with both problems is easier then keeping up on 2 separate forums.

This.

Also, if off topic posts were restricted to the off topic forum, Tractor Tales, instead of being scattered randomly throughout other forums it would make for a much more cohesive site.

Any other sites I am a member of the mods/admins move off topic posts to the off topic forum where they belong.
IF they do that this thing would close up, you don't like it just skip over it that easy

I asked a simple, honest question and all I got was a load of crap from someone who apparently thought I should have seen the answer elsewhere on the forum.

Apparently some people think they're 'way better and smarter than everyone else. If that stuff continues, I might be out of here.

yep, it has got me in hot water here also. its a learning thing for us all. somehow i am stumbling around finding my way.

I rarely post but do read a modest amount. There are some exceptional people on this site. Just wanted to say thanks to the providers and the people that post. I appreciate more than i can express adequately.
