I have one of those 0-ring kits with about 40 assorted sizes. Wouldn't you know it the size I needed today I didn't have. But I was going to local JD dealer to talk to a guy and they probably have the o-ring. At parts counter I gave him my old one and said..if you have it I want two. When I came back from talking he had two perfect ones in a little bag. $3.25 Seems high but what the heck I needed them. I reach in my pocket and get $3.25 He said we don't take cash here. Check or cc. I remembered that from the past but I said you can't take 3 dollars and 25 cents? He said.. I have no change whatsoever. I said ..you don't need change I have it spot on.
He said.. I have no till, I have no place to put it. The last sentence he said with an attitude so I swiped my card and left.

I would have walked out. Not only that but I do believe it is illegal for them not to take it or you can walk out with it without paying

I would have left the O-rings on the counter & left the store.

I have O ring kits, and copper washer assortments. What I find is, they are just a little too big, or too small. The problem is those kits come from countries that are using the metric system. Stan

I’m surprised they take checks.
There was a piece of paper on the door of a store I was at recently that stated that after November 3rd, they were no longer accepting checks. So there goes that method of payment...

Checks I can understand. So clumsy and slow. You're holding up the line! If you get a young person paying by check, it's probably a fake check.

Love these "won't take cash" threads. Get with the times. Nobody pays with cash anymore. If enough people paid with cash, they'd have a till. The people have spoken. At a dealership, most customers just put it on their revolving credit accounts and pay the bill off once a month, and that's been going on since the 1970's at least.

Some of my earliest memories were going to the IH dealer with Dad for parts. I didn't know until I was in my 30's that you could pay for things at the counter at a machinery dealer!!! I honestly thought you had to have an account and they sent you a bill at the end of the month.
