I bought the Zane Thang thinking it would solve my problem on my lift being dramatically out of control............and it didn't solve a thing...........it still doesn't move up until it does and does dramatically about three quarters up on the quadrant where its supposed to move.
and it moves down all of a sudden with the same drama when I move the lever forward to 2/3 down...........

Zane tried to explain to me what to do but even though I rebuilt my fiat engine myself and can do most mechanical work I don't get his instructions at all..............I asked him to do a video but got no response to that............I wished that gal that did the YouTube videos on the governor and other 9N changes would do a video on the quadrant problems.....

do believe that the purpose is to add additional feature of position control to an already working lift, not to fix a non working, dramatically out of control lift.
 
Yes, I concur with JMOR -you have other issues causing your condition. The Zane Thing simply adds position control to the 9N/2N Tractors. I'd remove the Zane Thing -for now anyway -and get back to basic root cause problem solving method to nail down the issue or issues with your system. It sounds like a few things are out of whack.

The Zane Thing is his own proprietary device. Rachel Gingell, who does the videos for Steiner Tractor, is under contract with them so unless Zane works out something with her and Steiners, don't expect to find it on U-TOOB any time soon...there may be someone who already has done a demo of his device, but I don't know if he has one or not. Like I said, I'd take it off and get into the system as is to resolve the problem(s)

I have one installed on a 2N and it works exactly as it is supposed to. I am out of town but if you are still having problems next Monday,
send me an email and maybe we can figure it out.

Jerry, that article doesn't apply here.........my lift works........its just violent when it engages and I can't stop the violent move which makes it insane to try and use my auger.....
 
I recall your previous post and have a couple questions;

Is the quadrant lever loose at any point in travel? Is there resistance in the handle's movement at any part of its travel arc?

n my opinion,you are too quick to dismiss this portion of Zane's suggestions;
EXHAUST CONTROL VALVE SPRING DAMAGED OR MISSING
There is a more rare condition that will really put a monkey wrench into the operation of the lift on the 9N/2N. This is when the retaining spring that is an integral part of the exhaust control valve breaks or becomes too weak to actuate the exhaust valve when it is moved by the control linkage. The spring is located on the exhaust valve itself and has to be intact in order to move the valve when the linkage is moved. It may be necessary to pull the pump in order to inspect and repair the exhaust control valve.

You should also inspect the spring that is connected between the front end of the ram cylinder of the lift to the knee portion of the control rods that go from the linkage at the top to the control valve in the bottom of the pump. This spring sometimes looses it tension from age and usage and must have enough tension on it to pull the control valve out when the lever is moved to the down position.


There is also the possibility that the exhaust port in the control valve bushing have become plugged with foreign material such as plastic shavings or gasket material etc. When this happens the only fix is to pull the pump out of the tractor and drive the bushing out and clean the ports of what ever junk is plugging the ports.

Zane said he had to shorten a spring on his maybe its one of the springs you are talking about...

You are supposed to adjust the draft control spring behind the seat before you adjust the quadrant. If the spring has more than around.020 clearance or you just should be able to turn the spring by hand with a plow or other heavy implement picked up. More than that then the spring needs to be adjusted and then adjust the quadrant.

I can turn it by hand when its down but I haven't tried when it has a load on it.........the big spring I mean

Uhhh, no, your lift does not work if it's doing what you say. A working lift will be a smooth and consistent motion. As someone said the Zane Thing won't fix your problem but it will give you position control. I've had one on my 9N ever since Zane started making them and it still works flawlessly. Good luck with it.
