zero compression on #3 cylinder

I have a 54 jubilee and i have zero compression on #3 cylinder, and im thinking that a valve is stuck open. Can i see the valve from the side cover?or do i have to remove the gas tank?
Thanks George

Well #1 there is no such thing as a 1954 Jubilee the jubilees where only made in 1953. That said no you can not see the valve from the side cover the Jubilee/NAA are valve in head engines so you have to remove the valve cover to see the valves. Something you can try that might help is fill #3 cylinder with ATF and then by hand turn the engine over make sure the spark plug is back in the head. Turning it over by hand will tell you if you have a valve stuck open because the ATF will either come out the exhaust or out of the carb. If it does not and it is on the compression stoke then you will find you can not turn it over. But if on the exhaust stoke the ATF will come out the exhaust no matter what but the ATF could also free up a stuck valve

Why don't you just pull it up to TDC and pressurize the cylinder through the spark plug hole with air. Listen for air coming out the carb., exhaust, radiator, or oil fill tube. Carb=intake valve. Exhaust=exhaust valve. Radiator=head gasket or cracked head or block. Oil fill=piston or rings.
Simple!

true but the ole times refer to the whole series as jubulee......

pull valve cover off and tap valves with a hammer to free up... look for the low one on number 3.
