I will use the word 'traditionally' as you did, upper hole closest to the block. Many mags have the digit '1' displayed beside that hole.I will be installing. Top right i assume

You're right, no wires needed to hook up for running. This spring I found out how important a kill switch is to have on the column within reach from the driver's seat when the clutch refused to release. I could've had a very serious outcome sitting on the tractor and you expect to stop within two or three feet and if the tractor is onto something with torque it may be hard to pull it out of gear fast enough. After my close call I wouldn't even start the tractor 'til the kill switch was in place.Got mag in the mail today.
Been lookn over schematic for it and appears that there are no wires to attach if i use kill tab.
Understand the convenience of kill switch on column but this tractor has been a real battle so any chance to elim sumpn im all in
That cap and mag was originally intended for something else. OEM, #1 is top inside as others have said.Interesting that magneto cap has #1 at upper right and progresses around cap. Number 4 is closest to block. I thought #1 would be closest to #1 plug
The mag is correct model. Stamped on side. Cap could be replaced. That cap and mag was originally intended for something else. OEM, #1 is top inside as others have said.

If you need help on the mag, I do them as a hobby.Right now quick test w plug and wire doesnt spark
Seeing this is a day later you may have made progress already? There is a chance that the mag is timed differently internally. With the cap off, engine at #1 TDC and installing the mag, see if the rotor points at (just very slightly past) any one of the contacts for the plug wires. If it does, you could make that hole your #one or rotate the mag forward to your choice to be #one. I had one A-C 201 where in previous ownership the drive gear on the engine had been re-clocked and consequently the mag had been re-timed internally as well. Very confusing until I found out what had been done.Ill install magneto after i get it to spark.
I set engine to TDC#1and pulled distributor n bracket from the governor. The gear drive notches are parallel to the ground. When i set the magneto to fire at #1 position can i pull gear out and reset it to match the magneto drive. Its at a 45° compared to parallel or is something wrong inside magneto from someone elses work?
