and make sure u put the plug gaskets back on the ones that are missing.!was this a running tractor before or whats the story on it ?
ok we ll get to it and at in tommorrow. put the plugs in with a bit of gas even mixed gas or a shot of oil with 6 shots of gas and it will start. that carb main screw has to be at least 2 turns out. is that 6 volts ? plus make sure you have good spark.It's now dark enough that it will need to wait till tomorrow.
The tractor was running nicely when parked (I know because I parked it) but that was a few years ago. It's been in a shed since. I did find a bug or something in the carb when I opened it the first time last week. While was previously running nicely, it was abused before I got it.

well give them 3 shots or 1/2 an ounce with a shot of oil. no oil can can use your shot glass ! lol.Spark looks good. It is 6 volt. I cleaned the grounds and got the starter spinning nicely.
6 teaspoons of gas in each cylinder? Seems like a lot.
Yes I covered that in post 20. But in the mean time I was waiting for his reply back on tweeking the float level. He didn’t show me the final tweek. He put the carb together and Tryed it. I didn’t get a chance to have him confirm the gas flow before hooking up the fuel line to carb. Was doing things here in a one step at a time deal , or was trying to. I can’t say whoow wait , if I can’t see the operation going on. So basically he jumped the gun to get it started. So got to back pedal back now. Plus it was flooding or so he says at the start of the job. Got that fixed anyhow with the float being not set right.What does your fuel system look like? No crud in the tank? Look down in it with a good flashlight. It has the sediment bowl in place under the tank and there is a circular screen in the top of it? If you have crud, debris, dirt, foreign material whatever you want to call it going through that needle and seat it will not seal and flood. If you’re interested in a way to read the actual level of fuel in the carb you can do it with a hose Barb in the drain plug hole and a clear hose on it. I can post an example if you need it.

Plug wires look good and I have good spark. Initially I had two valves that were stuck. Didn't take much to get them moving again and I spent quite a bit of time working them to until I was satisfied that they were not sticking again. I feel good air movement on each cylinder.Beating this float level to death. You can literally remove the carb, shoot a little gas up the intake and that tractor will fire up and run a couple seconds. I'm gonna say you have a timing or compression issue that needs to be addressed now. All my cubs (50+) start with 2-3 seconds of cranking. If yours won't,it's going to "flood". It's an updraft carb, unburnt gas is going to come back down and out. Let's move away from the carb and float ( before you break the float from repeatedly bending it) and fix the real issue. How's the plug wires? In the correct order? Did you change them?

Okay good, what about the screen in the top of the sediment bowl, is that in place? If it sat a while with gas in it that finally dried up it could have crud and barnacles inside the line that keep working loose continuing to cause problems with the float needle sealing. Most Farmalls have a strainer screen in the fitting on the carb inlet to minimize crud getting into the carb and float needle. I think these Zenith carbs are one of the exceptions. Probably won’t waste anymore breath here if the lord of cubs is taking over.Thanks. The tank looks clean. I may try the hose test.

U know nothing about a carb did you read every post ? He parked the tractor running. Did u not see the float was way out of adjustment ? Also how would u know how to set a float when u just buy a new carb all the time when yours won’t start. Or your wife works on them. And to add to your reply used red , I didn’t think it was very neighbourly for a guy with no carb experience to just jump in and throw the old experienced guy to the wolves. I was doing a step by step process to get this tractor running with what info I had supplied to me. So I wasted a few hrs. Last night is what it amounts to helping the guy. He was very good to work with . Ooh well. Guess we don’t get to see the final outcome of this cub because the cub king took over from his teacher and we are chopped liver ! Maybe if I got the job finished even gramp’s could learn a little more about a cub carb , ha ha. By actually following the full post to the end. And I don’t like to do a half azzed job either. A carb is a carb dont matter if it’s in a lawn boy or Louisville! And just because it’s on a cub tractor it neither here nor there !!And I have been into pretty much every make of carb not to blow my own horn. And carb people are going out as with the dinosaur’s. Lol. There took my break now back to fixing my swather. Lol. So I can cut the wheat so the city folk can by bread from this farmers product.No need to get your crank “turned” about it.
