1928 GP air filter issue

So for the life of me, I cannot get this cap off! Any ideas? I have soaked it for a week in e-85 nothing. It barely moves

Paint is worn around the screws, I imagine they’re holding it on.

It just unscrews like a big bottle cap,at least my 1929 GP does..,but it is possible in almost 100 years,it is modified.

It just turns off like a jar lid. The screws are soldered on. I can take mine off tomorrow and get a picture.

Don't try to remove the screws, Tap the strap with the loop in it with a small hammer., counterclockwise to remove.

On my 1928 D there are no threads. It looks like the same air cleaner. The lid just pops off.

I wonder if that is the difference between the straps with a hole and the straps with a looped end (see below).

Anyone know how this cap comes off? Does the screws hold it? I was told no. It won’t budge. I have soaked it in E-85 for a week. Still don’t move. I’m at a loss.

I use a big pair of channel-locks for this kind of thing. Might end up damaging the cap if you’re not careful. If it doesn’t move with gentle persuasion go to plan C or D.

Update! The screws did hold it in. Got 2 out had to sheet the one off at the head, then it unscrewed from the center screw. Wow.

Bigger issue is now what. Nothing comes out.? Should it?

If there is metal mesh in there putting solvent or diesel or Kero. and shaking it will get it clean. Jim
