Ford 5000 Simms injection pump help

I have fuel leaking out of the top of the pump where the injector line adapter enters the pump. Not the line fitting but the adapter right at the block at the top of the pump. This only happens when the engine is cold. When it heats up the leak stops. The biggest issue is that when it cools off and starts leaking again the injector lines drain out and it takes a while to purge the air out to get it started after sitting for a week. I don't recollect a seal there. If so please let me know. If not and it just needs to be tightened please let me know that also and what torque should be applied. Thanks in advance.

The leak you have is the O ring BETWEEN the delivery valve and plunger barrel top. If the pump has high hours I'll bet it should have the weight set replaced too. Special tools are needed to repair the pump correctly. All later pumps have the O ring, early pumps used a nylon type seal on top of the delivery valve before the O ring update was made.

Is there any exploded view/diagram to at least see what I'm dealing with or where these seals are supposed to go? Also, how do I know if I'm dealing with an early or later pump? Is this seal updatable? Tractor runs fantastic other than that.

P4666 is the EARLY pump, P4862 and P5024 are LATE pumps. The latest 5000 then switched to the CAV DPA rotary pump. The LATE pumps with the O ring have different delivery valves and line outlets for the O ring change. A special socket is needed for the outlet fitting remove/install so don't use a pipe wrench to wreck the fitting.

Yup, I have the early (P4666) type. Where can I get those 4 nylon seals and the special socket to change them?

Here is a link to the modified factory parts catalog provided by Messicks in PA. Not sure if this is considered the early or late or how that works specifically it is the only inline Simms pump shown. Not sure if DT will be back to provide you a diagram what I have seen he rarely does this which is understandable in my opinion and in his best interest. Believe me when I say I am a proponent of him, his ability and what he offers folks here. Also I kind of have the same idea that not having a diagram may discourage someone from poking around where they might get in trouble. It’s your call.

Thanks, it's a start.

I have the same tractor and fuel quit running to the rail. Ends up the rail had gotten stuck. I blasted it a few times and waited. It’s free now, but the interweb says I should be putting cambox oil in it and changing it frequently. Does anyone know if this is correct. Sad thing is I didn’t see anything I’m manual about this so haven’t ever done it

I'm not sure if you're talking about the oil you're supposed to put into the Simms pump but if so my manual says to use the same as goes in the crankcase. I change it every season.

You cannot unscrew the fitting and be done. If they are like p.pumps ( they look.like), the barrel height control timing and the angle of the nut control delivery. You want that very even. I would not do it, unless I had a simms manual, and a way to check timing and delivery on each injectors.
(For delivery it is as simple as pulling the tractor with another one and catch the fuel from the injectors (will require mouning the lines and injectors 180 degres from where they are, or bend them (not nice).

The Simms is NOTHING like the Bosch P pumps. I already told him that the O rings BETWEEN the delivery valve and barrel tops are where they leak. A special socket is needed to get the holders out, DO NOT use anything else or they will be damaged.
