I hate rats/mice

Rat chewed through a hose, leaking antifreeze now. It built a nest on top of the steering pedestal too.

I had two recent mouse problems. The first one was when they built a nest on top of the engine block of a tractor. That could have started a fire. The next one was when they chewed through the spark plug wires on a truck engine. That didn’t take but a few days for them to do it.
I’ve got a couple of traps waiting for them. One is a flip-type lid on a 5-gallon bucket. They climb up a ramp, go toward the bait and then they fall into water. The next is a live repeating trap that’s coming from Amazon. We’ll see how they work.

A mouse flooded my neighbor's basement. It chewed through plastic plumbing.
Anyone have any suggestions to prevent?
I'm a believer is mice poison in outbuildings and other places in my house.
I may go through 5 pounds a year.
My neighbor also has chickens. With any animal you get mice and rats.
For the first time since 1977 I found a dead stinking rat in my garage.
Get rid of animals and you may not have a problem.
In my outbuildings where no cats can get too I also leave a bowl of used antifreeze.
Mice like something to drink with their poison.

They don't like ammonia, Outside I use a pump sprayer and saturate areas where they hang out. My house basement Is limestone and I spray the walls.

Had a mice nest in the intake of my 71 Firebird, project car, and one in the exhaust, f*cking mice.

About 30 years ago rats/mice chewed hole in rubber connector line to turbo on out ford 7600. Was working in dry dusty field. Sucked enough grit in to engine that we had to have it reworked.

years ago my father was legally blind but he still had a pickup truck he wanted to sell it but was afraid to leave it in front of the house so he moved it behind the house backed it into the garage door so we took it to our house put in the shop looked behind it and the biggest rat I've ever seen ran out ,got into our house ate the bar soap out of the dish swiss miss mix ate a full carton ate rat bate like it was candy i finally shot it with a pistol with rat shot THIS WAS THE RAT FROM HELL

Moth balls work too
I strongly disagree. When I moved here, there was a mobile home on the property. It was full of mice. The water heater, in particular, was covered in... droppings. I was told moth balls would keep them out. I scattered half a box of them in the enclosure, and put the unused half box on top of the heater for later. They built a nest in the empty half of the box.

I don't know that moth balls work but you do have to keep adding them as they lose potency over time. About the best thing for hoseas and wiring if you can do it is put in armored cable cover I have not seen them chew through steel armor yet. I suppose there are some someplace though. I do find if there is no food source for them they tend to stay out of things more. I would like to get rid of those chipmunks. They do as much chewing damage as the mice and rats do.

Fill a bucket half full of water and put some sunflower seeds on top of the water and place a board chipmunks can climb up and jump in. Put in in the area where you see them, Has worked for me.
