I use Tomcat traps and bait them with peanut butter.

Anyone have any suggestions to prevent?

I had problems with mice chewing wires. I used Honda Rodent tape to wrap the wires. It's a bit expensive but it does work.

About the best thing for hoseas and wiring if you can do it is put in armored cable cover I have not seen them chew through steel armor yet.

I had squirrels (I believe) chewing on a WD fuel hose. I wrapped it with aluminum foil and that seemed to work.

I just bought 4# of genetic mouse bait at TSC for under $20 sale tax included. All mouse bait use the same neurotoxin. This poison is in balls. I may apply some peanut butter on it. I usually go through 4# a year in all my garages, pole barns and sheds. Most places want $30 for 4#.
