Grandpa Love gave you a contact when you were looking for a starter last summer.Have a Farmall BN an just wondering if anyone could recommend anyone they have dealt with for used parts that would ship to central NY?
Right now think I might be needing a starter.
Good memoryGrandpa Love gave you a contact when you were looking for a starter last summer.
Parts ASAP, parent company of YT providing this site sells salvage parts and they will ship. It is best to call them not look at salvage inventory online.
Web search "salvage parts for tractors", there are many that show up and most will ship.
Well thing is I did buy a new starter that was made in some unknown place and the switch is positioned so I had to change how my lever worked it. It did work last year but when I tried to start tractor last week it only cranked good for a little time and I think it might of failed. I'll try it again later today.Good memory. It's fascinating to me reading posts like this that are dragging on the same issue for months. Since his question last summer we have bought 20+ dead farmalls and they all drove up on trailers and are now at new homes
. It would drive me insane to know I had a starter issue dragging on for months.

Going on 76 years of age and dealing with some health problems so things I would do after working a 10 hour day at the quarry now can get dragged out for months! Not looking for sympathy just explaining why things can be slow to get done these days!
I did send a text to John hope we can get this working soon.
If it uses a pull rod to operate the starter switch check the switch contacts and positioning. It is not uncommon to have problems with that type of switch.Well thing is I did buy a new starter that was made in some unknown place and the switch is positioned so I had to change how my lever worked it. The biggest issue with those switches is poor battery cablesIf it uses a pull rod to operate the starter switch check the switch contacts and positioning. It is not uncommon to have problems with that type of switch.
I give it another look later today.I understand the getting older and slowing down. Starter cranked a little while and quit? Did it get hot? Did the battery cables get hot?
Who does the pinstriping? Looks really good.Good memory. It's fascinating to me reading posts like this that are dragging on the same issue for months. Since his question last summer we have bought 20+ dead farmalls and they all drove up on trailers and are now at new homes

My wife does...it's vinyl decals, she cuts them out on her Cricut machineWho does the pinstriping? Looks really good.
Good deal! Thanks for letting us know the solution. We buy our switches from Amazon or Rural King,if we are near one. For what ever reason we have great luck with Amazon partsWell did a little more work on the BN with the starter problem.
Seems the biggest problem is/was the switch on top of it. This starter is a Made in India version of the original starter with the main difference being where the switch is mounted. The original starter had the switch close to the gear end of starter and when you wanted to start engine you pushed down on the rod, on the India made starter you need to pull on the linkage to actuate the starter.
I looked and found the original starter and switch. The build quality of the two is very noticeable! Checking the two I could see that they were the same switch so I cleaned up the old switch and installed it on the India starter. Now the tractor cranked over fast and fired right up like it always has for years.
Checking online it looks like all the new switches, at least from the pictures, look like they are the same as the one on the India starter. So unless someone knows that the quality of some new switches are better than others I may just hope my old switch keeps working.
At least the BN is running like it always has since I rebuilt it something like 30 or more years ago!
Sounds like a Super A starter rather than one for an A/B.Seems the biggest problem is/was the switch on top of it. Common mistake...... especially ordering on line. The seller doesn't realize there is a differenceSounds like a Super A starter rather than one for an A/B.
Technically either one works, but the switch is either a push rod or pull rod. Makes the switch sit different.I'm pretty sure I ordered the starter from the link at the top of this sites page and notice that they have two listings for the starter that are confusing as both say models A, B, C, Super A, Super C. and when I click on either one I am sent to the same page.
Yep , i knew Jay Bates personally . But he was 5 1/2 hours away and sometimes he was not at all the sales one of the Robert's were . Anderson's is four hours away . I saw Dan three times a month and his brother at other sales where he was buying and sometimes he and i would battle over the same thing . they treated me will . Even if they did NOT have what i needed they would find me the part and get it coming my wayBates Corp seems to specialize in IH parts. I think I have ordered from them over the past 40 yrs, but I can't remember for what.
