It is a good idea to do that for an incandescent bulb as well. If the bulb blows, the alternator will work just the same. You do not need to find a spare incandescent bulb in a hurry, or you can use a 12 V LED without having to alter anything.

That's true, something I take for granted, but I always keep in mind when diagnosing issues on older vehicles.

Parts site shows the 7500 had an alternator with an external VR like the later x600 series.

U.S. built 7000's had an alternator from the factory, as well.
