Allis CA questions

We usually only buy farmalls,but this CA is for sale local , cheap. Is this weld repair just the water jacket? Like a Farmall? If it was a Farmall A,B,C.... I wouldn't worry at all. Just don't fool with enough allis to know. Motor turns. Thanks.

No, to me it looks like it threw a rod at some point.

It threw a rod and they patched the block. The crank and rod were likely repaired/replaced at that time, and it may be fine. Unless they just deleted that cylinder and are running it as a three-cylinder engine.

The patch is below the water jacket. Should not be a problem. No water escaped in the bottom picture.

One of my experiments with a 4 inch stroke failed.

I bought an F-20 (far right) 20+ years ago with a similar patch. Mine was running and has been as long as I've owned it. My patch isn't near as clean as yours. If someone took the time to patch it like that and put it back together, it is probably fine.

Here in CA the air resource board (CARB) trade in tractors used to get small holes punched in their blocks so they don't get "used" again. Then they send them to auction. Then farmers and resellers, and folks from Mexico and central America would buy them at auction and patch them up. A lot of times they were good as new as the area was non-stressed. But CARB got wise to this and now the frames get a chunk removed along with much larger holes in the blocks.

When the CARB program first started, they didn't even need holes in the blocks.

My Dad bought a CA new pretty much just to scuffle corn. I see the one you are looking at is set up for scuffler as well. I still have the tractor and intend to restore it someday as it was actually the first tractor I drove. They are a great little tractor and if its running right will outdo a farmall C. As for the patch I would just clean it up some and paint over it. I am surprised it would have thrown a rod as there used to be a fellow that tractor pulled with one, and man he would rev that thing to what sounded like 5000 rpm and it stayed together.

I still have the tractor and intend to restore it someday as it was actually the first tractor I drove. They are a great little tractor and if its running right will outdo a farmall C. As for the patch I would just clean it up some and paint over it. OK, curiosity is killing me. What is scuffling corn? I haven't heard that terminology before.

Probly a regional term for cultivate corn. It has the depth levers on both sides and the bracket that you drive into the cultivators for hooking up. Never heard that term myself.

I guess us Canadian farmers have some of our own terminology for things. Up here if you said to cultivate corn v/s scuffle corn we would think you were from the city! Not sure if its true or not but I think it originated from the Dutch who invented a special garden hoe called a scuffler???

I had these running on the day I took the picture. Several in the back on a list

When I saw a post a few years back about someone plowing their field pulling a disc I figured out I have only lived in a small area. I am in the crick - creek fog.
