Ignition switch for A/B

Yup, Due to incorrect/incomplete info we were trying to help him with a correct ignition switch, not an improperly used light switch.
I give you as much info as I have and it was there when I built the tractor so I left it as it was so I don't really know how it is wire it was that way when I started building it

In post # 22 you posted "Y-T doesn't carry a factory type ignition switch for the A or the B which is what I had hoped for." When in fact they do carry the right type of ignition switch for the A & B tractors, as noted in several posts replying to you.

You just replied here (post #63) "It was there when I built the tractor so I left it as it was so I don't really know how it is wire it was that way when I started building it". Previously in post #44 you had posted "A few years back I had a problem with this switch and found it had been wired so the fuse was in line with the ignition and that was causing problems fixed that and up till now I haven't had much trouble with it." That sounds to me like you do know how it was wired, you have worked on it in the past.

Sorry if this offends, but you not finding the right switch in the past and the runaround in this thread was caused by your misidentification of the switch controlling your tractor's ignition system, from the beginning; not vendors or the members here giving you wrong suggestions for possible ignition switches. A picture would have shown people the switch you were looking at and might have cleared things up quicker. (I know you will reply that you can't post pictures for one or another reason, so don't bother posting that.)

Now you should have the correct info in this thread for the either of the switches that would be "OEM" on the A & B tractors, so you can get one that matches what you have for an ignition switch and replace it, if you chose. Good luck.

As has been said time and time again if it isn't broke DON'T fix it and it hasn't been broke. As for the site having the switch when I looked the other day I didn't find the OE switch

If it wasn't broke, why did you waste time posting about it not starting and having to use a "hot" wire. That sounds broke and temporarily field patched, not OEM.

Then carry on about not being able to find a switch, when you were looking for the wrong switch. ;)

I was looking for the right switch but I didn't know the OEM was not made for a battery type ignition since every A/B I have had used the rotary type switch for ignition even those that used battery ignition and I have had at least 4 Bs over the years

And you, an EI tech as you have told us many times, didn't realize they were light switches? Did you notice the fuse was after the power in terminal of the light switch to protect the lighting circuit. I believe the input terminal for the light switch was used as a tap point to pull a power supply for the added ignition switch when the distributor was installed.

Did you ever hear the old saying to the effect of "If you find yourself stuck in a hole, put the shovel down and stop digging deeper"?

Have a good evening. :)

I was a Navy E.T. and worked on computers which is one heck of a lot different then working on the wiring of a tractor. As for looking at the switch didn't you read where I said it was wired the way it is by someone other then myself??? Yes I did later after I built the BA found that the light circuit of the switch had been used for the battery ignition when the fuse had blown but I still didn't know the switch wasn't correct for a battery ignition but it has worked for years if not a decade
