    Struggling to run - 861

Charged battery, new Autolite plugs, started right up and runs smoothly. :) I still have the issue of it being smokey and smelly. Tomorrow I will get it fully warmed up then try adjusting the main jet off idle to see if I can lean it out. Andy

    Struggling to run - 861

Compression results (fuel shut off, coil disconnected, all plugs removed): 1 = 142 2 = 130 3 = 140 4 = 130 I'm pretty happy with that. The compression testing killed the battery so it is now on charge. Andy

    Struggling to run - 861

Gas and oil on the two plugs I removed (Champion H12). Electrode completely gone on one of them. This is a light-duty occasional-use tractor, mainly for maintaining half an acre around a building, so now need to look at pragmatic solutions. I will do a compression test and replace all of the...

    Struggling to run - 861

Thanks John. I swapped the coil: https://www.external_link/FDS1106-Alternator-Conversion-Kit The tractor ran fine after the conversion. Andy

    Struggling to run - 861

I have an 861 and it was running OK last year but increasingly rich - more and more exhaust smoke. I then left it for five months over winter. When I returned all of the ethanol-free fuel had leaked out of the tank via the closed shut off valve o-ring. The sediment bowl was still full. I put...

    MF 1745 Round Baler Problems

I had AI do an analysis on the diagram and this is what it came up with.

    MF 1745 Round Baler Problems

We are having an issue getting the hydraulic tension system working. We have had one cylinder rebuilt and replaced the bale density valve. The rebuilder said there was nothing wrong with the cylinder, so we are in the "throw parts at it" state instead of trying to diagnose what is actually...

    861 Clutch pedal adjustment

Pedal height is about 13", way higher than FO-20 says of 9 3/8". The problem is when the pedal is fully depressed the PTO lever is grinding gears trying to enable. I could only engage the PTO with the engine turned off. With a baler attached fully pressing the pedal would cause the baler to slow...

    12V conversion - charging lamp

Thanks for info on the bulb! I gave the seller feedback on how they can improve their kit to work with the 801 and this is what they told me: Their mention of an external regulator and modifications show they have no clue what I am describing, so it's just a waste of time. They are not...

    12V conversion - charging lamp

I bought the kit from a prominent company name begins with S. I contacted them about this and they said: I set the wiring up to use the two terminals but left them unconnected and tested everything. Then I gave the terminals a try and it appears to work. Here is a video. So they don't seem...

    12V conversion - charging lamp

Tractor is running and I am almost done. The final step is sourcing a new bulb for the implement work light. This is a ~4.5" sealed beam unit with "Ford" and "Tract-o-lite" on the glass. It's pretty cool but is there a 12V drop in replacement or do I have to add a voltage divider and keep it? It...

    12V conversion - charging lamp

I took all of the advice and bits and pieces I could find and made a wiring diagram, putting it all together. Then I did another search and found @john in la had already drawn the exact same diagram 12 years ago: This is exactly what I need for my 861. Now I can rip out the 63 years of botch...

    12V conversion - charging lamp

@john in la - in this post: https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=ford&th=344550 you name the terminals on the 10SI alternator 1F and 2S. On mine they are 1R and 2F. For mine does pin 2 go to the BAT connector like on yours or does pin 1? In this thread...

    12V conversion - charging lamp

Can I tell by opening it up and looking at the regulator? Andy
